The Benefits of Sauna Use
Helps to relieve mental fatigue.
When your body is relaxed, your mind feels better and you feel better. The Sauna promotes a wonderful sense of well being.
Relieves tension and stress.
You will feel rejuvenated and have increased energy levels. The Sauna helps many get a more restful sleep.
Provides a cardiovascular workout-helps condition the heart.
Finnish researchers have reported that regular use of Saunas helps maintain the blood vessels. Vessels become elastic and pliable longer, due to regular dilation and contraction from the process of heating and cooling the body repeatedly. The heart rate increases in the Sauna, creating a demand for more oxygen, which in turn, burns calories and provides a mild workout for the heart.
Increases metabolic rate.
Regular Sauna usage helps speed up the metabolism in a way similar to exercise. Burn as many as 300 calories during a Sauna session. The Sauna should not, of course, be used as a weight loss aid by itself, but when used with a good diet and exercise program, a Sauna can help burn more calories. Weight is lost in a Sauna, but most of it is water loss from sweating.
Improves circulation.
Blood vessel dilation brings blood closer to the surface of the skin, and as blood vessels expand to accommodate increased blood flow, circulation in the extremities improves.

What To Expect

Steam Sauna
Our traditional Finnish Steam Sauna is privately nestled outside amongst the trees, bordering Empire Mine State Park. The steam sauna is a small room made from beautiful cedar wood. There is a sauna heater which contains special rocks that can withstand the high heat and cold water that may be poured on them to create steam. The steam helps raise the temperature and create humidity, causing an increase in sweating.

Infrared Sauna
Infrared saunas increase the body’s core temperature thus resulting in a much deeper, more detoxifying sweat from the cellular level of the skin where many toxins are housed. Conventional hot rock/steam heat saunas heat the air with steam, which can be too hot to some people. If you prefer a more intense heat, we recommend using our steam sauna. An infrared sauna uses soothing dry infrared heat that is well ventilated and extremely comfortable and relaxing. Infrared heat therapy has also been proven to assist with weight loss, pain relief, improved circulation and skin rejuvenation.
Light Therapy ~ Chromotherapy
An Infrared Sauna add-on. The science of using colors to adjust body vibrations to frequencies that result in health and harmony. Humans need the sun's light, which is broken into seven distinct rays, to live. If there is an imbalance in these colors within our bodies, it can manifest itself in mental or physical distress. Each color possesses frequencies of a specific vibration, and each vibration is related to different physical symptoms. Chromotherapy works on various energy points to help your body re-establish its natural balance. It accomplishes this via the full spectrum of visible light, each color of which addresses a separate bodily need.
Sound Therapy ~ Acoustic Resonance Therapy
An Infrared Sauna add-on. Combines the healing effects of sound and vibration to harmonize all systems of the body bringing you to a deeper state of relaxation. Listening to soothing music and feeling it resonate throughout the body stimulates the body's natural relaxation response. It feels like light touch massage during your sauna session. Acoustic Resonance Therapy helps stimulate the natural relaxed state of body and mind. It balances our brainwaves and reminds us of our natural harmonic state. As your bones resonate with the calming vibrations, neuro-pathways to the brain are activated, helping you achieve a more focused state of mind and balanced heart rate.

Fun Sauna Facts
-
One of the first written descriptions of the Finnish Sauna was in 1112. The earliest Sauna was dug into an embankment in the ground. Later Saunas were built above ground with wooden logs. In Finland, the sauna was thought of as a healing refreshment. The old saying goes: "Jos ei viina, terva tai sauna auta, tauti on kuolemaksi." ("If vodka, tar, or the sauna won't help, the illness is fatal.")
-
In earlier time the Finns would first build their Sauna; live in it as it also seconded as a guest house, then built the barn for the animals, and only then built the main residence.
-
There are more than 1 Sauna for every 3 people in Finland (over two million). That's more Saunas than cars.
-
Saunas are even used in hot climates like Saudi Arabia because once you take a Sauna, the outside air feels cooler and you sweat less.
-
Historically saunas have been the most sacred places after the church, and most houses which could afford to build a sauna had one. In older times women also used to give birth in the sauna because it was a warm and sterile environment.
-
Our steam sauna is usually between 180-200 degrees Fahrenheit
-
A typical 20-minute Sauna session can extract 1 qt. of water from the body. So drink plenty of water!
-
Finer control over the temperature experienced can be achieved by choosing a higher level bench for those wishing a hotter experience or a lower level bench for a more moderate temperature and the corner of the room diagonally opposite the heater is always the hottest.
-
Doors need to be kept closed and used quickly to maintain the temperature inside.
-
German researchers published their study where they surveyed 22 kindergarten children who used weekly sauna baths and compared them with a group that did not use any sauna baths. The children who used sauna proved to be free of incidence of ear infections, colds, and upper respiratory problems. Children who didn't use the sauna baths suffered twice the number of sick days
